Observing

Robtics | ObservingVisual observing of the night sky can be done with just the naked eye or by using an optical aid. Binoculars or telescopes help you to gather more light than the naked eye and these gives you the opportunity to see fainter objects and smaller details. While telescopes basically just gather light, eyepieces are used to magnify the image captured by the telescope. A barlow lens can be used together with the eyepiece to further increase the magnification. Filters can be used to fight light-pollution or to enhance contrasts in nebula or details on planets.

To make the best out of visual observing, it is recommended to go to a location with as little light surrounding you as possible. The human eye needs to adjust to the low levels of light (dark adaption) by increasing the diameter of the pupil. This takes time and this is the reason one starts to see more in the dark after spending some time in complete darkness. To be able to see what you're doing it is best to use a dimly lit red light in order not to disturb the dark adapted eye.

In this section you'll find everything you need for visual observing of the night sky. Eyepieces and eyepiece accessories, filters, diagonals, binoviewers and lots more.
