The ASIAIR Mini is a smart device that wirelessly controls your telescope rig and makes astrophotography easier than ever. The ASIAIR Mini acts as the brain of your telescope rig by automatically pointing your GoTo equatorial mount, powering your camera and equipment, and controlling compatible ZWO accessories like the EAF, filter wheel, guide camera, and more.

Goodbye Laptop: Control Your Telescope Rig with your Smartphone or Tablet

With the ASIAIR Mini, you can leave your laptop behind and control your entire telescope rig wirelessly with your smartphone or tablet. Say goodbye to clunky power supplies and cable snags.

The free ASIAIR app, compatible with both iOS and Android devices, features everything the modern astrophotographer needs. The days of needing multiple software applications on your computer to capture images, perform autoguiding, and other tasks are over. The ASIAIR app does it all.

The ASIAIR app is the same for all ASIAIR models. It can handle polar alignment, plate solving, GoTo mount control, guiding (with a ZWO guide camera), autofocus (with the ZWO EAF), and automatic filter changes (with a ZWO filter wheel). It can even perform more advanced tasks like mosaic planning, rotation matching, live stacking, and much more.

What devices can the ASIAIR control?

The ASIAIR Mini can control a wide variety of astrophotography equipment, including equatorial mounts, nearly all ZWO CMOS cameras, DSLR, and Mirrorless cameras, the ZWO EAF (Electronic Automatic Focuser), ZWO EFW (electronic filter wheels), and more astronomy accessories like dew heaters.

ASIAIR Mini vs. the ASIAIR Plus Comparison

Building on the huge success of the larger ZWO ASIAIR Plus and the previous generation ZWO ASIAIR Pro, the ASIAIR Mini keeps most of the best features from its bigger brother in a smaller form factor and costs significantly less.

*Live stacking on the ASIAIR Mini is supported for most cameras except those over 26 megapixels. It will not live stack images from ASI6200 series cameras, the ASI461, or supported DSLR & Mirrorless cameras above 26 megapixels, but still supports standard image capture for those models.

Other than these differences, the ASIAIR Mini offers all of the same functionality as the ASIAIR Plus. This includes:

  • Wi-Fi connection to your telescope rig (same range as ASIAIR Plus antenna)
  • eMMC internal storage
  • USB-C port for transferring your data to a computer
  • DSLR & Mirrorless camera shutter release port (see supported camera list)
  • All of the same shared features found in the ASIAIR app, including:
  • Polar alignment tool
  • Automated image capture routines
  • Plate solving
  • Guiding
  • Live stacking

Size of the ASIAIR Mini vs. the ASIAIR Plus

The ASIAIR Mini is 42% smaller and 21% lighter than the ASIAIR Plus.

Who is the ASIAIR Mini for?

The ZWO ASI AIR Mini is best for astrophotographers who don't need all of the bells and whistles found in the ZWO ASI AIR Plus. This includes beginners with minimal setups and experienced imagers who might have a travel astrophotography rig consisting of just a star tracker as the mount.

This means for beginner telescope rigs and portable star trackers, an ASIAIR Mini is more than capable of handling the job.

How to Connect the ASIAIR Mini to a Camera

The ASIAIR Mini supports all current ZWO cameras, including cooled and uncooled cameras like planetary and guide cameras. To connect your cooled ZWO CMOS camera to any ASI AIR device, simply plug in the included USB cable into both the camera and the ASIAIR, and then connect one of the included DC power cables into both devices.

For ZWO planetary cameras, the ASIAIR Mini and ASIAIR Plus will be limited to a certain frame rate. Despite USB 2.0 ports on the ASIAIR Mini, the performance will be similar to the ASIAIR Plus because the limiting factor is the eMMC storage. If you plan to do serious high frame rate planetary imaging, you will get the best frame rates with a computer using a USB 3.0 cable.

As for deep sky imagers using a DSLR or Mirrorless camera, you need a shutter release cable for your appropriate camera. Please also view the compatibile cameras list to make sure your camera is compatible first.

How to Connect the ASIAIR Mini to a Mount

The ASIAIR Mini is compatible with over 400 equatorial mounts, and works seamlessly with the ZWO AM5. Certain mounts like Sky-Watcher mounts require an additional EQDIR cable, while others can connect via Wi-Fi. For more information on how to connect ASI AIR compatible mounts, please visit the ZWO ASIAIR manual page.

Power Supply for the ASIAIR Mini

If you're wondering how to power the ASIAIR Mini, the ASIAIR Mini needs its own power supply, which is sold separately. If you image somewhere that you have access to AC power, our recommendation is the ZWO 12v 5a AC adapter.

If you image in the field and require DC power, you can connect one of the included DC cables to a portable battery like the Sky-Watcher Power Tank. It is strongly recommended to power your mount with a separate power supply other than the ASIAIR, whether it be batteries or a separate power supply.
