Autoguiding

Autoguiding is an essential technology in astrophotography, designed to enhance the precision and quality of long-exposure images by compensating for the subtle movements of a telescope during observation. At Robtics, we offer a range of autoguiding solutions, including guide scopes, guide cameras, and off-axis guiding systems, tailored to meet the needs of both amateur and professional astronomers.

A guide scope is a secondary telescope mounted alongside your primary imaging telescope. It is equipped with a guide camera that captures images of a selected guide star. The autoguiding software continuously analyzes the star's position within the frame, sending real-time corrections to the mount to counteract any tracking errors. This method is very flexible and particularly popular due to its simplicity and effectiveness, making it an ideal choice to start autoguiding.

Another flavor of autoguiding is off-axis guiding using an Off-Axis Guider (OAG). An OAG system uses a prism to divert a small portion of light from the main telescope, allowing the guide camera to track stars using the same optics through which the actual imaging is being done without the need for an additional guide scope. This setup minimizes differential flexure, which can occur when using separate optical paths, ensuring that your guiding and imaging telescopes are perfectly aligned. Off-axis guiding offers a solution for telescope systems like Schmidt-Cassegrains where the primary mirror can shift during long exposures (mirror flip). Greatly improving the accuracy, especially when imaging at longer focal lengths.

Whether you are just starting your astrophotography journey or are a seasoned pro, our range of autoguiding products at Robtics will help you achieve stunning, high-quality images of celestial objects. Explore our extensive selection of guide scopes, cameras, and OAG systems to elevate your astronomical experience and capture the universe like never before. With the right autoguiding setup, you can unlock the secrets of the night sky and bring the beauty of distant galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters to life.
